Family legacy
A tradition of impact
Sheikha Shamma cites her family as a source of inspiration for her work. Her great-grandfather, the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, believed the environment was “an integral part of the country, our history and our heritage." Under the leadership of her grandfather, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE saw its first woman minister and its first minister for the environment. She aspires to continue Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Khalifa’s legacy by pursuing sustainability, philanthropy, and women’s empowerment.
